How is GST handled?

For Australian customers, GST is added at checkout with a tax invoice — in the App Store and Google Play the price already includes it. New Zealand customers pay the listed AUD figure.

Australia and New Zealand only

Listed prices exclude GST. For Australian customers it’s added at checkout, and you get a tax invoice. The exception is subscribing inside a mobile app, where the store shows a price that already includes it. GST applies to Australian customers only — New Zealand organisations paying through Stripe are billed the listed AUD figure. United Kingdom pricing is separate: it is in GBP and excludes VAT, which is applied at checkout where applicable — see the UK pricing page.

Paying through Stripe

Every figure on the pricing page is ex GST — A$79, A$129, and the A$89–109 practice bands. For Australian customers, GST is applied at checkout, so the amount charged is higher than the listed figure, and a tax invoice is issued for it. New Zealand customers are charged the listed figure.

Practices billed through Stripe can pull receipts from the customer portal, alongside seats and plan changes. See how practices pay.

Paying through the App Store

If you subscribe inside a mobile app, the store shows a price that already includes the tax that applies where you are, so it won’t line up exactly with the ex-tax figure on the pricing page. Nothing is added on top at checkout — the tax is already in the number.

Paying through Google Play

Individual subscriptions taken out in the Android app are billed by Google through Google Play, and the price Google Play shows you already includes the tax that applies where you are — same shape as the App Store, so nothing is added on top at checkout. Google issues the receipt, and the subscription is managed and cancelled in your Google Play subscription settings rather than in Akoua.

Which one you’re on

Subscribe in the iOS app and Apple bills you; subscribe in the Android app and Google does; subscribe anywhere else — the web app, Windows, Mac — and it’s Stripe, at the ex-GST prices above. One subscription covers all your devices whichever way you started, so you never pay twice.

Cancelling follows the same split: a store subscription is cancelled in that store’s settings, and deleting the app doesn’t cancel it. A Stripe subscription is cancelled in Settings → Billing. Which apps are available where is on the apps page.

What we can’t answer

Whether you can claim GST back, and how to treat the subscription in your own accounts, depends on your registration and circumstances. That’s a question for your accountant, not for us.

If a specific invoice doesn’t look right, get in touch with the date and the amount and we’ll trace it.
