Responsible use

What Akoua does

It transcribes a consented consultation in near real time and distinguishes the clinician from other speakers. It drafts a structured note from only what was spoken, marking anything absent as [not stated] rather than guessing. And it flags content it wasn't confident it heard, or couldn't structure cleanly, so the clinician's attention goes to the right place.

What Akoua does not do

It does not diagnose, recommend treatment, or make clinical decisions. It does not invent, infer, or suggest clinical content — diagnoses, doses, management — that was not explicitly spoken. It does not replace the clinician's judgement or the clinical record's source of truth.

The clinician stays in control

Every model-generated draft requires explicit human review and confirmation before it is saved or exported. Nothing is committed on the model's own. The clinician is responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the final note, exactly as they are today.

Regulatory position

Akoua is designed to operate as a documentation aid and not as Software as a Medical Device (SaMD). It makes no clinical inferences. Operators remain responsible for using it within their own clinical governance, professional obligations, and applicable regulations.

Privacy by default

Audio is processed on Akoua's Australian infrastructure and deleted by default — kept encrypted only while the clinician reviews, deleted the moment the note is confirmed, with a hard 7-day ceiling on abandoned drafts.
