What does Akoua not do?

Akoua does not diagnose, recommend treatment, or make clinical decisions. It does not invent, infer, or suggest clinical content — diagnoses, doses, management — that was not explicitly spoken. And it does not replace your judgement, or the clinical record as the source of truth.

It is a documentation aid. It records what was said in a consultation and helps you structure it into a note. It is not a diagnostic or clinical decision-support tool, and it must never be relied on as one.

What that means in practice

• Nothing is inferred. The draft is built from only what was spoken.
• Nothing absent is filled in. Anything missing from the transcript is marked [not stated] rather than guessed, and a safety-critical gap becomes a visible flag rather than a silent drop.
• Nothing is corrected silently. Left and right, doses and critical values get an extra advisory check — surfaced for your eye, never auto-corrected — and a recovered medication name is always shown and revertible.
• Nothing decides. Every one of these systems is advisory: they surface, they never decide.

You confirm everything

Every model-generated draft requires explicit human review and confirmation before it is saved or exported. Nothing is committed on the model’s own. You are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the final note, exactly as you are today.

That extends to the paperwork around the note. MBS item-number hints — shown to Australian organisations only — are a read-only suggestion, never a claim — Akoua never saves, exports or submits one, so there is no confirm step and nothing is billed by Akoua. Letters and tasks are different: those are drafts you confirm before they are finalised or exported.

The same rules on every platform

Akoua runs on the web, on Windows and Mac, on iPhone and Apple Watch, and on Android. The intended use is identical everywhere: a watch or phone may capture the conversation, but no note is committed anywhere without your explicit review and confirmation. The same consent gates, the same [not stated] discipline, the same audit trail.

Where this sits

Akoua is designed to operate as a documentation aid and not as Software as a Medical Device. It makes no clinical inferences. Operators remain responsible for using it within their own clinical governance, professional obligations, and applicable regulations.
