Most AI scribes fail in the same quiet way. They hand you a fluent, confident note, and the one detail they got wrong looks exactly like the details they got right. There is nothing on the page that asks you to slow down, so you sign it. The error was never hidden on purpose. It was just never marked.
Akoua is built the other way around.
Akoua is a private, Australian AI medical scribe. It listens to the consultation, shows you what it heard, flags anything it isn’t sure of, and drafts a note for you to review and confirm. That is the whole idea behind the name we put on the product: the note, not the guess.
One line we keep on every page, because it is a boundary and not a slogan: Akoua is a documentation aid, not a diagnostic device. It makes no clinical inferences. It writes down what was said and marks what wasn’t.
Here are the three things we decided not to compromise on.
It tells you when it isn’t sure
Akoua surfaces uncertainty in three ways, right there in the draft:
- “Not sure I heard this.” Low-confidence words get a dotted underline. Tap it to listen back to that exact moment of audio and decide for yourself.
- “Heard it, couldn’t place it.” When Akoua caught something but couldn’t structure it cleanly, it becomes a highlighted block with a review tag, rather than being forced into the wrong section.
- [ not stated ] Anything absent from the conversation is marked as [ not stated ]. It is never padded with plausible filler.
Every statement in the draft is grounded back to the transcript, and nothing is saved until you confirm. The uncertainty is not a confession. It is the product doing its job.
Privacy you can verify, not just read
On AU Sovereign, everything stays in Australia: transcription and note drafting run on vetted Australian services over private links inside Akoua’s cloud — disclosed on every note, under the consent your organisation gives for that processing. Ordinary consent to record is a separate authority, given for each consultation. Speaker identity, including any voice profile, is matched only on Akoua’s own infrastructure and never sent to a provider. Nothing is processed outside Australia without a separate, explicit request for that specific session. Audio is deleted by default: kept encrypted only while you review, then deleted the moment you confirm the note. Abandoned drafts are wiped within seven days. Clinical data is never used to train models.
And you don’t have to take that on faith. A patient-facing privacy view runs live checks in the room, covering encryption, residency, deletion and audit. The patient can keep a QR deletion receipt and re-scan it later to see the audio is gone.
Built for Australian medicine
Akoua speaks the local language of practice. It carries a roughly 2,900-drug PBS and AMH vocabulary, offers MBS billing-item hints you confirm, and writes RACGP-aware referrals and letters. It ships with the templates you actually use: SOAP, problem-based, detailed history and exam, mental health, GPCCMP, health assessments, antenatal and procedure notes. It was tested on Australian-accent consult audio, not someone else’s.
On the devices you already carry
Akoua is live today on the web, on Windows and Mac, on iPhone and Apple Watch, and on Android; the apps page has the store link for each. The iPhone and Apple Watch app controls capture from the wrist while the phone stays in your pocket. One account works across every device, and your notes and letters export as clean text and PDF. Australian practices can connect Cliniko or Nookal; connections to other practice software are on the roadmap.
Founding pricing, locked while you stay
Founding members pay A$79 a month plus GST, and that price stays locked for as long as your subscription is active. Standard pricing is A$129 a month or A$1,290 a year, and practices are A$89 to A$109 per clinician a month. Every plan is the full product; we don’t gate features by tier.
